Galápagos Islands and San Cristobal Project – Ecuador
Our expeditions to Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands always comprised impact projects conducted in partnership with local NGOs with specific needs.
One of these projects consisted of supporting the Golden Years Association (Años Dorados) on the island of San Cristobal. The NGO provides assistance to the growing senior population of the Galápagos. Our student group spent a few days on the island constructing a wall around the NGO’s main community center and exchanging with the seniors.
The students explored a few other islands of the Galápagos archipelago (counting ~20 islands) and learned about several conservation initiatives and scientific research projects, including those of Santa Cruz (and the Charles Darwin station) and Leon Dormido. The group also went on a diving trip and discovered the very rich wildlife of the Galápagos including the giant tortoises, the iguanas and the penguins.
