MENA Oceans Summit, Dubai, UAE

Karim participated in the MENA Oceans Summit in Dubai, an event dedicated to fostering collaboration for the sustainable management of oceans and seas while balancing economic development with conservation.

Representing Roland Berger, a knowledge partner of the initiative, Karim joined key organizations, including the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (وزارة التغير المناخي والبيئة) and the United Nations, to support this critical dialogue.

The summit provided a regional perspective on ocean conservation efforts ahead of the United Nations Ocean Conference 2025 in Nice, France. It convened diverse stakeholders to address pressing challenges related to marine biodiversity, the blue economy, and ocean governance, focusing on:

- Translating scientific research into actionable policies and business strategies
- Strengthening multilateral and cross-border collaboration on common frameworks and targets
- Developing practical solutions and technologies, with a key role for the private sector and entrepreneurs
- Advancing innovative financing mechanisms to support ocean conservation efforts

As a speaker, Karim contributed to the “Connecting Ecology and Financing” panel, where he explored groundbreaking funding models essential for protecting marine ecosystems. He was joined by:

Karim continues to engage with the MENA Oceans Initiative, the organization behind the summit, which was launched during COP28 in Dubai to drive lasting impact on regional ocean sustainability.
